OMdeSIGN designs and builds state of the art e-commerce website for designer florist Paul Thomas Flowers

London based web design agency, OMdeSIGN, are proud to announce the launch of a brand new e-commerce website for the innovative, high end designer florist Paul Thomas Flowers

To call Paul Thomas Flowers a designer florist is to understate matters somewhat. Since starting his own business in 1989, having trained with Kenneth Turner, Paul has been earning plaudits for the unique style, endless innovation and seemingly effortless beauty of the floral works of art which he creates. A passion for the flowers he works with allied to a fearlessly bold eye for aesthetic detail have earned Paul a reputation for supplying hotels, restaurants, shops and offices – as well as people simply seeking a beautiful treat – with designs described, time and again, as ‘luscious’, ‘explosive’ and ‘beautiful’.

Despite a client list which already includes Vivienne Westwood, the Ritz London and the Royal family, Paul came to OMdeSIGN to expand his online presence via a bespoke e-commerce website. The OMdeSIGN web agency team worked closely with Paul to design a site which captured and reflected the visual impact of the designs for which he is famous. Paul Thomas Flowers provided the stunning imagery and we built a website designed specifically to make the most of the carefully crafted beauty on display. This meant creating full width slideshows on the homepage and product pages and complimenting this with an overall look which matched Paul’s creations for style, elegance and the wow factor.

Not only did the website we built look the part but it got the job done. It was responsive to the full range of mobile devices and easy to navigate. A custom built content management system meant that the team at Paul Thomas could update the content of the site as quickly as they fashioned stunning new creations, whilst the administrative interface made it simple to perform tasks such as managing stock, taking delivery details and dealing with payments. Everything which you should be able to take for granted when using an e-commerce website, in other words, allied to a grasp of the business which meant that the site played a key role in projecting and emphasising the up-market yet accessible nature of Paul Thomas Flowers.

Since being launched, the site has received overwhelmingly positive feedback and helped to drive a rise in online sales.

E-commerce – maximising sales with your product photography.

When it comes to the design of an e-commerce website, the importance of product photography should not be underestimated. After all, if your customers can’t get the product in their hands to touch, taste, or smell, then the images have to work twice as hard to do the selling. You need images that instil confidence in your customers and show your product at its tastiest, flashiest, softest or most luxurious. This is ultimately what will compel people to ‘add to cart’ thereby increasing your conversion rates.

However, there’s more to good photography than simply making the products look great. The images should work with the overall design and aesthetics of your website as well, so that everything gels nicely together and the images look like they were taken just for you. Here are a few key things to bear in mind when you’re taking product shots.

OMdeSIGN designs and builds state of the art website for brand new Silver by Aston Martin range

London based web design agency, OmDesign, have completed work on one of their most exciting and challenging briefs to date – the brand new e-commerce website for the stunning Silver by Aston Martin range.

Aston Martin is a brand that needs no introduction. For more than 100 years the name has been synonymous with style, elegance, craftsmanship and some of the most coveted and exclusive sports cars in the luxury car category. Now they have decided to branch into exclusive silver gifts and accessories and as such needed a sophisticated, state of the art e-commerce site to showcase and sell the range.

Aston Martin has a very distinct style and brand image, so the team at OmDesign needed to work very closely with the brand managers and get sign off at every stage to ensure that the overall look and feel of the website adhered to the strict brand guidelines. This meant that a lot of time went into the aesthetic design before the more technical side of things could be considered.

Using Djang as a platform the OmDesign team then began planning the build of the e-commerce site, which needed to provide an elegant, sophisticated browsing and shopping experience for the customer with intuitive suggestions as to what the customer might like to look at next. The team decided to divide the website up into four distinct sections: eating and drinking, travel and picnic, gifts and accessories, models and replicas and the exclusive Aston Martin Black, which was a bespoke design section. A simple drop down navigation system allows for easy browsing, and the site has been optimised for all screen sizes to ensure that visual quality is not lost on smart phones or tablets.

As well as product pages the site also features a handy store locator so that customers can find out where the nearest stockist of the range is, as well as a news area and press section.

So far, the website has proven to be a great success and a worth addition to the Aston Martin legacy, with online sales of the range already exceeding expectations.
